Michigan Advisory Committee

Current Topic

Artificial Intelligence and Civil Rights in Michigan

The Committee seeks to examine the civil-rights implications of artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI, algorithmic decision systems, and other automated decision tools used or regulated in Michigan. They hope to learn whether such systems, in particular public-sector and government-regulated uses, implicate discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, national origin, or other protected categories, or denial of equal protection or due process in the administration of justice. They also hope to learn about the benefits of AI, including efficiency, consistency, access, and fraud prevention, and the safeguards needed to preserve civil rights while allowing beneficial uses to proceed.

They are currently hosting briefings on this topic which will be announced in the Federal Register.
